Heading to Laconia via the Kancamagus - New England Ride 2023 Vol 4

The Kancamagus Highway is a scenic drive in New Hampshire along Route 112. This ride is a "not-to-miss" ride; let me tell you it's beautiful!!

Breathtaking Moment With Our Coffee!

Our day started with a cool briskness to the air. Temperatures were much lower than we were used to and crawling out of the sleeping bags was not something we enjoyed. But coffee was necessary!!! We decided to walk up to the "Pond" when coffee was brewed. It's a lake for us but they are calling it a pond. Gorgeous morning!! The sun was warm and we just soaked it up.

No Signal!!

It was time to pack up camp and get on the road. Today we were finally going to prioritize breakfast but we had a problem. No signal for GPS. All we knew was that we needed to turn left when we exited the campground and hopefully, we would run into some service; or a McDonalds lol. Unfortunately, unlike home, there aren't fast-food restaurants on every corner. We passed through two towns and had nothing to eat. I was diligently watching my GPS as I rode to look for service. Finely I had service and pulled off the road. But nope, I moved about 10 feet past the signal, nothing. So we pulled back out on the road and quickly I had a moment of service again. So I pulled over and again nothing!!. Luckily, as I was accelerating back on the road, the GPS was still trying to load and finally came in. When we crossed the next hill there was a huge gas station with a wonderful breakfast restaurant, P&H Truckstop, just waiting for us. I laughed so hard at our struggles, just to come over the next hill to a solution.

Truckers Special - A breakfast worth sharing.

The breakfast was delicious. They had a "truckers special" that was enough food for both of us. After filling our bellies we planned our route for the Kancamagus. A short distance from our wonderful breakfast place was the start of our route.

The Kancamagus for us was very similar to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Nice flowing curves, vast scenic overlooks, and a little heavier traffic than we experienced while riding the 100 in Vermont. We did go through Lincoln while the Highland games were in full swing. Very cool to see. Unfortunately, we did not take the time to stop. The riding was so good we refused to take away from it.

Bucket List Dealership

Our final destination was Laconia Harley Davidson. Laconia has a large rally every year that we have longed to attend for many years. We may not have come at the right time of year but I was still excited to officially get my chip and a t-shirt. The dealership is actually in the town of Meredith, which is a quaint lakefront tourist town. Many cool restaurants and the weather when we arrived was perfect.

After setting up camp at Meredith Woods Campground we rode back to town for some dinner. We ended up eating at Town Docks, which is a restaurant at the public docks. We enjoyed lakefront views with outdoor seating and an open-air bar. The motorcycle riding community was significant and we met two other couples also enjoying what New Hampshire had to offer.

As we enjoyed our dinner we knew we had to make some decisions. Rain was in the forecast starting overnight and forecasted to be very heavy. We like the town so much we decided to extend our stay and hunker down through the storm.

Gear up and Ride!!

Ya'll don't ever assume that a transportation service will be available in New England. Not one taxi, uber, or Lyft to be had. On our second day in Meredith, we huddled up in the foyer of our tent and stared at each other in sheer boredom for way too long. Finally, after exhausting all resources to find a ride, we donned our rain gear and headed to town. Enjoyed lunch at Vida at the Lake, a Mexican restaurant. My husband isn't a huge fan of Mexican food but I could eat it every day. The food was delicious and the margarita was on point. We weren't ready to head back to stare at each other more, so we headed across the street to

the Frog Rock Tavern. This bar was the perfect place to kill time on a nasty rainy day. busy enough to make conversations with others but not so busy you get lost in the crowd. The service was amazing and we would go back in a heartbeat. It was time to head back before dark and guys we were in bed asleep by 7:30. Even if we should have ridden on in the rain instead of hanging out, I wouldn't change a thing. Some of the most precious memories are made in uncomfortable situations. And yall we had an amazing brainstorming session while half geared up and watching the rain sipping cold beverages.

Not all days are amazing days when pursuing an "Engineered4Adventure" life but they are all worth it! Get out there, get uncomfortable, and make some memories.
