We are not ready for the cold!!
So let's head east! We loaded the trailer with our V-Stroms and headed to Uwharrie National Forest. Unfortunately, we planned this so last minute that we could not make a reservation. Who knew if we would find a campsite or not? We had two options. one is Arrowhead campground which has water and power at each site and was less primative. We did not need those amenities but having fresh water on site would be nice. When we arrived all sites were full. Very surprising for this time of year but I think everyone was escaping the cold and enjoying the great weather or there to hunt. So we headed over to Badin Lake campground. Beautiful place just down the road, no power or water at the site but like I said we don't need it. It was in the 60's when we arrived and wow it was amazing.
Setting camp was a Breeze
Camping in the Van is always a joy because there is very little setup. We did have to assemble a tripod we purchased so Bryan could try his hand at Dutch oven cooking over the fire. He made a pot of chili that was delicious. This was also made possible by the van and its lovely refrigerator. The van also allowed us to carry extra camp chairs so we could invite our friends who live in the area to enjoy an evening with us.
Riding Uwharrie Dirt Roads
After a great night's sleep in the van, we had some pastries and Bryan made some French press coffee in our wonderful French press mugs. Guys his coffee is amazing. We had to wash dishes before we left for the day and then it was time to ride. I have to say, the washing of dishes was not the highlight of my day. Our friend gave us a route that included some fun gravel and I have to say some pretty awesome pavement riding too. We rode for a couple of hours and decided to return to camp for lunch. We love croissant sandwiches and wow they were so good. After eating we sat watching the wildlife. The campers next to us had left food out on their picnic table and it was like a squirrel and bird party over there. Very entertaining!!!
No!!! Not Rain!!
Wouldn't you know right as we were deciding to hop back on the bikes the rain started. Bryan checked the radar and the rain had come early. We decided very quickly to pack up and head home. But you know it was all worth it even for just one night!
That's life "Engineered4Adventure" ya'll!!
